Ornithological Monographs

The Ornithological Monographs series, published by the AOU, was established for major papers and presentations too long for inclusion in the Union's journal, The Auk. Manuscripts for Ornithological Monographs are 50–300 typescript pages, and may deal with a single topic or multi-faceted study (such as a dissertation), or symposia papers from recent ornithological meetings.

Each issue of Ornithological Monographs has its own structure, but we attempt to follow the Instructions to Authors used for The Auk as far as possible. Authors of potential Ornithological Monographs should contact the Editor (Michael Morrison; ) before submission of manuscripts.

The AOU requests that authors bear all or part of the cost of publishing their papers when grant, institutional, or personal funds are available for this purpose. Current costs are:

US $1,000 for up to 50 printed pages
US $1,500 for 51-100 printed pages
US $2,000 for more than 100 printed pages

Authors who do not have access to publication funds may request a waiver of a portion of this payment from Scott Gillihan, AOU Executive Director ()

Many of these issues are freely available to all users in PDF format on SORA, the Searchable Ornithological Research Archive. AOU members have access to all issues via JSTOR . You should receive an email from JSTOR User Services when you join or renew your membership. The email will include instructions and a link to allow you to register with the website and to access the journal online. If you do not receive an email, or if you need additional assistance, contact JSTOR User Services at .
